local 16 scholarships

Local 16 sponsors two scholarship programs. The James P. Nolan Memorial Scholarship is in memory of the founding president of NABET Local 16. We also sponsor a Scholarship Fund in memory of WABC-TV transmitter engineer Donald DiFranco, who died in the World Trade Center attack on September 11, 2001. The number and amounts of these awards are set each year by the Local 16 Executive Board.

In 2011 we will award four (4) James P. Nolan Scholarships ($1000 each) and one (1) Donald DiFranco Scholarship ($1000) for the 2011-2012 school term.

A random drawing will held on Thursday, May 5, 2011 to determine the five winners.

Eligibility:

  • The scholarships are open to sons and daughters of retired, deceased, or active members, in good standing, of NABET-CWA Local 16. Grandchildren are not eligible.
  • Applicants must be enrolled in an institution of higher learning full-time during the 2011-2012 school year. Previous winners are not eligible.

The DiFranco Scholarship is financed in part by the sale of t-shirts, and personal contributions. Checks made out to the "Donald DiFranco Scholarship Fund" may be sent to NABET-CWA Local 16 at 80 West End Ave. Room 501, New York, NY 10023.

Contributions to the DiFranco Scholarship Fund are not tax-deductible.

Applications are now available and must be returned to the Local 16 office by Friday, April 29, 2011.
