Local 16 sponsors two scholarship programs. The James P. Nolan Memorial Scholarship is in memory of the founding president of NABET Local 16. We also sponsor a Scholarship Fund in memory of WABC-TV transmitter engineer Donald DiFranco, who died in the World Trade Center attack on September 11, 2001. The number and amounts of these awards are set each year by the Local 16 Executive Board in the spring.

In 2007 we awarded five (5) James P. Nolan Scholarships ($1000 each) and one (1) Donald DiFranco Scholarship ($1000) for the 2007-2008 school term.

A random drawing was held on July 9, 2007 to determine the six winners . Winners were notified by mail and an e-mail was sent to the general membership.

Eligibility: 1) The scholarships are open to sons and daughters of
retired, deceased, or active members, in good standing, of NABET-CWA
Local 16. Grandchildren are not eligible. 2) Applicants must be
enrolled in an institution of higher learning full-time during the
2007-2008 school year. Previous winners are not eligible.

The DiFranco Scholarship is financed in part by the sale of t-shirts, and personal contributions. Checks made out to the "Donald DiFranco Scholarship Fund" may be sent to NABET-CWA Local 16 at 80 West End Ave. Room 501, New York, NY 10023.

Contributions to the DiFranco Scholarship Fund are not tax-deductible.

Details for the 2008-2009 program will be announced in Spring 2008.
